LPG-Startbox allows instant driving on LPG just seconds upon engine start-up at any temperature down to +5°C/+41°F. It's compatible with any common LPG-system and any common engine working on LPG..

During engine start-up, the system adjusts the fuel injection amount to the optimal combustion point of LPG. This way, engines can almost instantly run on LPG without having to cover warm-up distances. The patented LPG-Startbox not only helps to reduce fuel consumption and hence to reduce cost on fuel, but reduces carbon emission and helps to extend filter changing intervals. Additionally, LPG-Startbox protects engines from leaching lubricant films on the cylinder walls by reducing the amount of unburned gasoline during the start-up and by operating with higher octane index. Especially short distance drivers, such as commuters, taxis, and buses can now make better use of LPG as they don’t have to drive on gasoline the first kilometers or miles. This way, LPG-Startbox can save up to 10% of fuel cost and reduces an LPG-systems time till amortization. LPG-Startbox operates at temperatures down to +5°C/+41°F. At temperatures down to -40°C/-40°F, the optional LPG-Powerheater which enables vehicles to run on LPG within 40 seconds upon engine start, is required. While LPG-Startbox manages the optimal combustion point of LPG, the LPG-Powerheater preheats LPG instantly during start-up and avoids freezing of vaporizers, injection valves, filters and gas tubes. In multi-year tests and during hundred thousands of test kilometers fuel savings of up to 1 liter (0,26gal.) per start-up at cold temperatures have been realized. LPG-Startbox works on all common vehicles and LPG-compatible engines.

Depending on the field of application, RPS-Powerheater heat up LPG, petrol, diesel, oil, and gas to temperatures of 40-60°C/140°F-176°F within seconds. PCT heating elements cause best possible thermal output at minimal need of energy. With this patented technology, cars for example can instantly run on LPG upon start-up at low temperatures without having to wait for an optimal coolant temperature. All products are retrofit, easy and quick to install.
Within their field of application RPS-Powerheater manage an optimal combustion temperature of LPG for any LPG vehicle such as cars, truck, boats and even aircrafts.

For the automotive the LPG-Powerheater was developed

This self-controlling unit heats up LPG to an optimal combustion temperature and impedes evaporizers, injection valves, and gas tubes from freezing. Consequently, the operating temperature of LPG systems can be lowered to a minimum without harming the engine or impairing driving comfort.
In combination with RPS’ LPG-Startbox instant driving on LPG is even possible at temperatures down to -40°C/-40°F. Warm-up kilometers or miles for coolant preheating are no longer required.
For nautical assignments the Marine-Heater was developed.
The Marine-Heater is a modification of the LPG-Powerheater, adapted to the special needs of boat engines under consideration of their performance and fuel consumption. Due the Marine-Heater, LPG usage of boat engines can be efficiently increased. Particularly under full throttle and at single circuit cooling systems the systems prevents injection valves, tubes, filters and vaporizers from freezing. The engine continuously receives the optimal vaporizing temperature needed to run on LPG. Modifications on the engine, the injection valves or the cooling system are not required. The Marine-Heater gets installed on the LPG supply tubes right in front of the vaporizer and is simply connected to the vessels power supply.
The Liquid-Heater was designed for any fluids such as diesel, oil, gasoline and even glue. This heater hinders for example diesel from freezing at extremely low temperatures. With this solution, tanks do not have to be continuously kept warm to make efficient use of fuel and to avoid a loss of power.

Facts one should now about cold engine start-ups

While covering warm-up distances upon a cold engine start-up, petrol engines use up to 500% more gasoline than in warm condition.

While covering warm-up distances driving on LPG is not possible or at least severely limited.

Every cold start-up is a torture for your engine - especially if your car runs on autogas. Cold gasoline reduces the protective lubricant film on the cylinder walls.

Cold engine start-ups can cause additional need for fuel of up to one liter and harms environment the most.

Optimal operating temperature of an engine is reached after several minutes. Frequently, the ride is already over before the engine even runs on LPG.

RPS solutions help to reduce these issues and allow you to use LPG efficiently. Especially at short distance rides LPG is now a better option than diesel or gasoline.

Why do have vehicles to start and drive the first distance on gasoline?

System-related LPG-vehicles always start on gasoline and switch to LPG after having covered distances between 1-5km (0,7-3 miles) and having reached a coolant temperature of around +70°C. Depending on the engine size, engine temperature, outside temperature, and the LPG-system settings, the required temperature frequently gets reached just before the drive is already over. Vehicles require a recommended coolant temperature of around +70°C do prevent injection valves, evaporizers and gas rails from freezing. By leaving the tank and expending, LPG cools out its environment. In traditional systems, hot coolant water is consequently needed to warm up LPG and prevent LPG-systems from freezing. With RPS technology, an minimum coolant temperature is no longer required.

Why can't vehicles instantly run on LPG upon cold start-up?

To understand why traditional LPG-vehicles cannot operate instantly on LPG, one has to understand the operation mode of combustion engines, of LPG-systems, and the characteristics of fuel. Regular combustion engines require up to 500% more fuel upon cold start-up than in warm condition. One reason is that condensate covers cylinder walls. Further, fuel contains condensate which hinders it from reaching its optimal combustion point at low temperatures. Consequently, engine management has to increase the fuel injection amount to compensate the energy loss. Motorist may experience this when observing engine revolutions in neutral position upon start-up and comparing it to the revolutions in warm condition. Once the engine has reached its optimal operating temperature and fuel gets heated up before getting injected into the engine, engine management reduces the amount of fuel needed.Despite the fact, that autogas must have a minimum temperature to prevent injectors from freezing, engine management would simply inject a false air-LPG-ratio when starting on LPG instantly upon cold start-up.

How is it possible to drive on LPG instantly?

Once a vehicle has reached its optimal operating temperature and was turned off for short time only, the car can run instantly within seconds on LPG as long as coolant temperature is hot enough to heat up LPG. However, does coolant temperature go below a threshold value necessary for the LPG-system to operate, engine has to first warm up coolant to the threshold value required by the LPG-system. Especially in winter or at cold and icy days, coolant temperature may cool out very quick. However, to guarantee instant LPG usage, two challenges need to be tackled.

First, the defined amount of fuel engine management would inject into the engine needs to be reduced. Unlike regular gasoline, LPG doesn't contain condensate which lowers its combustion point at low temperatures. LPG's burning characteristic doesn't change much at temperatures between -40°C and +30°C. Would engine management inject an equivalent amount of LPG instead of gasoline, the gas-to-air ratio would cause the engine to turn off, to run fretful, or to get damaged. Common LPG-System thus only start to operate once and the engine has reached a certain operating temperature and engine management has reduced the injection amount. Because of that, LPG drivers should avoid doing emergency starts on LPG.

Second, at extremely low temperatures below +5°C, LPG would cause evaporizers, filters and injection valves to freeze since it cools out its surrounding when changing its compressed condition and expanding. Hence, LPG needs to get warmed up before reaching at at latest when bein in the evaporizer. The required heat for heating up LPG stems from engine's hot coolant temperature and is not available instantly upon start-up.

Why is an cold start-up on LPG better for the engine than an cold start-up on gasoline?

Every cold start-up on gasoline is torture for the engine. The colder gasoline, the lower is its burning ability as it condensates on the cylinder walls. Much more gasoline is required to make the engine run. But, increased amount of condensate and arrears reduces the protective lubricant film of the cylinder wall and cause deterioration. Also, the excess demand of gasoline means increased cost and increased emissions. In particular short distance motorists may wonder why their car experiences engine damages at around 200.000km while long distance motorists can drive up to 500.000km without any issues. By driving instantly on LPG, motorists benefits from not reducing the protective lubricant film of the cylinder walls due LPG's characteristics, reducing fuel amount, and reducing operating cost. Additionally, the total distance covered on LPG when starting on it at each distinct drive exceeds the distance covered when starting on gasoline. This means a quicker time to amortization of the LPG-System.

Doesn't cold LPG damage the LPG-system?

Some might say that the evaporizer may freeze and its membrane my become defect. Fact is, LPG doesn't freeze!
High volumes of gas extraction cool the evaporator inside. Therefore, outside humidity might freeze on the outside of the evaporator. Since the evaporator receives warm coolant water fairly quick at temperatures above + 5°C heat, external icing is kept limited. However, using RPS-Powerheater can completely reduced and avoid icing and the membrane doesn't get damaged. The membrane regulates and stabilizes the low-pressure region. The control chamber of the membrane is usually connected directly to the pressure side of the engine. Due its direct connection, the membrane must always work, regardless whether running on petrol or autogas, warm or cold season. So, if same LPG-systems are installed globally, the ones used in cold countries, such as the USA, Canada, and Russia, must experience damages more frequently than the ones in warm countries. We interviewed some of our partners in these cold countries and they don't know any of these issues. We couldn't experience any damages due cold temperatures neither. Even during long-term tests in a cold chamber.

How does LPG-Startbox work?

LPG Startbox takes out extremely high fuel quantities when running an engine in cold condition and the gas system started operating (when cold). With LPG-Startbox gasoline is only required for a couple of seconds upon cold start-up and gas consumption is not higher in cold than in warm condition. Some of our customers were able to lower their gasoline consumption of up to 1,5l/100km. LPG-Startbox allows a smooth driving, protects the, protects the catalytic converter, reduces emission, saves fuel, and saves money.

What happens to the injectors, do they freeze?

Using the PRS-Powerheater solution, LPG gets preheated to an optimal operating temperature. Freezing of injectors as known at low temperatures is prevented.

Many LPG systems can start on LPG even without the LPG-Startbox. Why would I need a Startbox?

That's right! Modern LPG systems can start directly on LPG without using a LPG-Startbox as they have an emergency start function. Yet, those who tried this function before know that the engine runs more bad than good if it runs at all.
If the engine even starts, it runs very rough, behaves jerky, spits, and drives like having a horse ride. Similar might be experienced when the switching temperature of gasoline and autogas it set to low. The restless engine running is caused by excessively high quantities of gas. LPG-Startbox reduces these quantities.
